Event Schedule

Below is a list of events that were held during the 2016 Winston-Salem Open. A new list for the 2017 tournament will be made available as the WSO gets closer. Thanks for your interest in the Winston-Salem Open!

Kid's Day

Brenner Children's Hospital will be kicking off the Winston-Salem Open with their sixth annual Brenner Kid's Day. On Saturday, August 20, kids will hit the court for lots of excitement at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex. The day begins at 9:30 a.m., offering age-appropriate activities for children ages 6-8 years old until 11 a.m. Kids ages 9-12 will follow from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Chick-fil-A of Thruway Shopping Center and Peace Haven road will serve lunch for all participants at the conclusion of the event.

USTA North Carolina will be organizing the day's activities. These will center around the fundamentals, skills and fun of tennis for all ability levels. Brenner Kid's Day is offered FREE to the public. Winston-Salem Open's mascot "Bo" will be make an appearance, along with other mascots.

We would like to ask our participants to bring school supplies as a donation for Educators Warehouse. The Educator Warehouse is a facility in Forsyth County where teachers can come and shop for free school supplies for their classrooms. The Educator Warehouse is a non-profit and relies completely on our community for either in-kind or monetary donations. With your donation, you will receive an additional ticket into Saturday's matches following Kid's Day.

Fill the Food Bank

Bring three (3) canned goods to receive a free ticket to all qualifying matches on Saturday, Aug. 20. All donations will support the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest N.C.

10 & Under Coaches Workshop

Please join us for this interactive 10 & Under Coaches Workshop on Monday, Aug. 22, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center. This workshop will be led by a National Trainer and cover a wide range of youth coaching topics. The workshop is open to anyone interested in working with tennis players ages 10 and under. No coaching experience is required. All workshop attendees will receive a tournament ticket good for the Aug. 22 day session, Session 4.

Yoga on the Courts with Elliott Watlington

Join us for "Yoga on the Courts" with Elliott Watlington on Monday, Aug. 22, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Indoor Tennis Center! "Yoga on the Courts" with Elliott Watlington will be a fun class for all levels, whether you're a yoga pro or it's your first time. The class will show all types of people the benefits of yoga and will show seasoned practitioners how yoga can be used to improve athleticism in every way, shape and form. Enjoy some yoga and then come check out the tennis tournament. The first 25 attendees will receive a free ticket to the tournament!

Elliott Watlington is a power yoga teacher and Yoga Ambassador for Lululemon Athletica from Winston-Salem, N.C. He teaches at PAZ Studios in downtown Winston-Salem and at Wake Forest University for many of the sports teams. He was formerly a soccer player and coach at East Carolina University and holds a degree in Eastern Philosophy and Religion. Watlington has studied and taught yoga in India as well as around the United States with hundreds of athletes. Elliott's classes are physically and mentally challenging are and geared toward the mindful athlete at heart.

Military Appreciation Night

Monday, August 22, we would like to take an evening to thank the active duty and veteran military men and women who protect and have protected our country. Wear your red, white and blue and show your respect and appreciation for our men and women in uniform.

High School Play Day

Calling all high school players! You're invited to the Winston-Salem Open High School Play Day on Tuesday, Aug. 23, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center. Participants will play in a fun round robin format tournament against other high school players from around the state. All players will receive lunch and a ticket to the day session - Session 6 - on Aug. 23. Please contact Alex Johnson to register or for more information. 

USTA Member Appreciation Day

Join us Tuesday, Aug. 23, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. for the annual USTA North Carolina Membership Appreciation Day in Deacon Tower! No need to register, just give us your member ID number at the door and join us for an evening of food, giveaways and fun. You can mingle with other USTA members from around the state and meet our mystery guests. Hope to see you there!

Wake Forest Baptist Health Ladies Day

The annual Ladies Day celebration is back for the sixth year of the tournament! Join us on Thursday, Aug. 25, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. as we host several "How To" booths, followed by a special lunch with a fashion show showcasing Champion active wear and Monkee's of the Village fall fashion line.
