Two-time Winston-Salem Open champion John Isner has withdrawn from the tournament ahead of his quarterfinal match against Lukas Rosol because of a left ankle injury sustained during his win over Mikhail Kukushkin last night.
“I am extremely disappointed to have to withdraw from the Winston-Salem Open, one of my favorite stops of the year,” said Isner “It is extra disappointing for me given that it is my hometown tournament. I would have loved to continue to chase my third title here in Winston-Salem in front of these great fans, my friends and family."”
“We’re very disappointed that John is not going to be able to play today, but we understand that his health is of primary importance,” said Winston-Salem Open tournament director Bill Oakes. “We wish him the best of luck in his recovery and look forward to seeing him in Winston-Salem again soon.”
Winston-Salem Open fans will be able to meet Isner during an autograph session at 4:30 p.m. on site. Fans with tickets to either the day or night sessions on Thursday will be able to attend.
