WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Sam Querrey, a three-time Winston-Salem Open semifinalist, has signed on to return to the Wake Forest Tennis Complex this year for the fifth year in a row.

Querrey becomes the third player announced for the 48-player main singles draw for the 2016 tournament. He joins reigning champion Kevin Anderson and the ATP World Tour’s newest champion Steve Johnson, who picked up his first-career title over the weekend at Nottingham.

“Historically, Sam has been a fan-favorite at the Winston-Salem Open and he’s made a lot of deep runs late in the week, so he was a player we knew without question we want to return year after year,” said Tournament Director Bill Oakes. “At Wimbledon this week, Sam has already picked up two nice wins and we’re sure he can bring more thrillers to Stadium Court again this year at the Winston-Salem Open.”

After not playing the inaugural WSO in 2011, Querrey has been a mainstay in the main draw since 2012. In his first three years at the tournament, the American made runs to the semifinals each year. On three occasions, Querrey has been seeded No. 7 or better, earning the No. 6 seed in 2013 and the No. 7 seed in 2012 and 2015. In his latest run to the Winston-Salem Open semifinals in 2014, Querrey was not seeded but topped players among the likes of Johnson, Anderson and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez before falling to 2014 runner-up Jerzy Janowicz in three sets.

Currently, Querrey is ranked No. 41 in the world. Earlier this year, he picked up his first title on tour since 2012 by winning at Delray Beach in February. At Wimbledon this week, Querrey has already reached the third round and is set to take on top-seeded Novak Djokovic. In the first round, Querrey took a five-set match over Rosol after dropping the first two sets. In the end, he earned the 6-7 (6), 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-2, 12-10 victory. Earlier Thursday, Querrey dispatched Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, 6-2.
