WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Winston-Salem Professional Tennis has reached terms with Winston-Salem Open tournament director Bill Oakes to extend his contract through 2021. Oakes has been the only tournament director of the Winston-Salem Open since its debut in 2011. The 2015 edition of the tournament is in full swing with third-round action taking play Wednesday.
“We are extremely pleased Bill will continue as our tournament director,” Don Flow, chairman of the board for the Winston-Salem Open, said. “We feel Bill’s leadership is critical to our success. He is extremely well respected among the ATP. He has done a great job at building relationships throughout the community and we feel fortunate to have his leadership.”
“Our board of directors is pleased to share the wonderful news about the contact extension that has been reached with tournament director Bill Oakes,” Dr. Harold Pollard, treasurer of Winston-Salem Professional Tennis, said. “We couldn’t be more excited for Bill, his colleagues and tennis fans.
“We’ve been very happy with everything Bill has accomplished during his first five years to make the Winston-Salem Open one of the leading tennis tournaments in America and a much-anticipated annual professional sports event for Winston-Salem,” Pollard added.
In addition to serving as the tournament director, Oakes is also an associate athletic director for strategic communications with Wake Forest Athletics. He joined the Demon Deacons in 2011 when he took the position with the Winston-Salem Open.
