Top seeds Neal Skupski and Joe Salisbury became the first doubles team to secure a spot in the semifinals of this year’s Winston-Salem Open.
In their opening match, Skupski and Salisbury faced wildcards Luca Pow and Dhakshineswar Suresh. The pairing recovered from a set down to clinch a dramatic [10-8] match tiebreaker, capturing the match 3-6, 6-3, [10-8]. Wake Forest students Pow and Suresh made it to the semifinals during last years tournament before being eliminated by 2024 champions Lammons and Withrow.
The duo then defeated Fernando Romboli and John-Patrick Smith in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, in the quarterfinals yesterday.
By securing the win over Romboli/Smith, they officially booked their place in the semifinals, the first team in the doubles draw to reach that stage this week.
The duo will go on to face No. 3 Seeded team Francisco Cabral and Lucas Miedler on Friday afternoon.
