On a night that started with the Wake Forest Men’s Tennis team receiving their national championship rings on Stadium court, star player Stefan Dostanic stole back the spotlight – taking down Aleksandar Vukic 6-4, 6-2 in his ATP Tour debut. With the win, Dostanic becomes the first Wake player in tournament history to win a main draw match at the Winston-Salem Open.
“I’ve officially found a new home here,” Dostanic told the crowd after the match.
Dostanic had his foot on the gas pedal from start to finish, energized by the home crowd that had gathered on Stadium court to honor the Deacon national championship team before the match. He looked comfortable on home soil, showing a high level of poise and confidence for a player making his ATP main draw debut.
Next up for Dostanic is a meeting with reigning Winston-Salem Open champion Lorenzo Sonego. The two will meet in the second match of the night on Stadium court, preceded by No. 1 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas making his Winston-Salem Open debut.
