The North American hard-court swing continues this week at the Winston-Salem Open, where Stefanos Tsitsipas leads the field at the ATP 250 event. The Greek No. 1 faces fierce competition from the likes of defending champion Lorenzo Sonego and Tallon Griekspoor.
ATPTour.com looks at five things to watch in Winston-Salem.
1) Tsitsipas accepts late WC: After slipping outside the Top 20 in the PIF ATP Rankings for the first time since 2018, Tsitsipas will hope to turn his season around in Winston-Salem, where he is the top seed. The Greek, who has rejoined forces with father and coach Apostolos Tsitsipas, owns a 20-15 record in 2025, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index.
The former World No. 3 and 2019 Nitto ATP Finals champion, Tsitsipas is making his debut and is chasing his second trophy of the season after capturing his first ATP 500 title in Dubai in March.
2) Defending champ Sonego: By defeating Alex Michelsen to claim his fourth ATP Tour trophy in Winston-Salem last year, Sonego became the 11th active player to have won a title on outdoor hard, indoor hard, clay and grass. The 30-year-old Italian will begin his title defence in North Carolina having not won consecutive matches on hard courts since February.
3) Griekspoor, Darderi seek to add to 2025 titles: Griekspoor and Luciano Darderi, the second and third seeds, are both aiming to rejoin the 2025 winner’s circle. Griekspoor triumphed on the grass in Mallorca, but aims to snap a three-match tour-level losing streak upon return to Winston-Salem for the first time since 2023.
Darderi has won three titles this year, in Marrakech, Bastad and Umag, but all of those have come on clay. The Italian World No. 34, who is two spots off his career-high No. 32, owns a 3-19 tour-level record on hard courts.
4) Former winners return: Sebastian Baez, Roberto Bautista Agut and Pablo Carreno Busta will all try and reclaim the trophy in Winston-Salem. Bautista Agut is playing for the first time since winning the title in 2017.
5) Salisbury/Skupski aim to bolster Turin hopes: Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski, who are No. 5 in the PIF ATP Live Doubles Teams Rankings, are aiming to make their team debut at the Nitto ATP Finals. The Britons are chasing their first title of the season after four championship-match appearances, including the Roland Garros final in June.
