The Winston-Salem Open will welcome back Greensboro, N.C. native and two-time champion (2011, 2012) John Isner as part of the 2025 tournament experience this year. The American legend will be on-site at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex on Thursday, August 21 and Friday, August 22 to visit with fans as he makes his first return to the event since he last competed in 2017.
Isner claimed 16 ATP Tour titles throughout his ATP career before retiring in 2023, two of which came at the Winston-Salem Open. The North Carolina native won the title in 2011 at the tournament’s inaugural year in Winston-Salem and followed that up with a title defense in 2012. Isner remains the only player in Winston-Salem Open history to win back-to-back titles.
“The Winston-Salem Open and this community are so special to me, and I can’t wait to be back on the grounds of this event,” Isner said. “This has always been a home tournament to me and always will be.”
After playing collegiate tennis at the University of Georgia, Isner evolved into one of the top American players of his generation, reaching a career high ranking of World No. 8 in 2018 and finishing his career with 488 ATP Tour wins. At 6’foot’11, Isner retired as the most dominant server in tennis history, holding the record as the sport’s all-time ace leader with 14,411.
“John is one of the great talents our sport has seen, and it’s an absolute pleasure to welcome him back to Winston-Salem this August to be a part of our event,” Tournament Director Jeff Ryan said. “He played a huge part in growing this tournament with his back-to-back titles and we know he will always be a fan-favorite icon here in the Winston-Salem community.”
Isner will be present at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex on Thursday, August 21 and Friday, August 22 with special meet and greet and autograph opportunities during the final rounds of the 2025 Winston-Salem Open.
