Jenson Brooksby made an opening-round statement Sunday at the Winston-Salem Open, where he raced past Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 6-3, 6-2 in exactly 60 minutes.
Facing the hefty-serving 6’7” Frenchman, Brooksby was dominant on return, earning four breaks and producing a clean baseline effort to set a second-round clash with seventh seed Stefanos Tsitsipas.
“I think we really strategised on how we wanted to best contact the ball [on return],” said Brooksby when asked about his standout returning performance.
The 25-year-old Brooksby defeated former No. 3 Tsitsipas in their lone Lexus ATP Head2Head meeting in Indian Wells four years ago.
