Demon Deac Mees Rottgering’s memorable run came to an end Wednesday with a straight-sets loss to Wimbledon semifinalist Arthur Fery. Despite the loss, Rottgering put together an impressive week in Winston-Salem, providing another glimpse of his bright future at Wake Forest and beyond.

In last night’s headline match, American Alex Kovacevic upset No. 7 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas, 6-3, 7-6. Kovacevic advanced to his 10th ATP Tour quarterfinal and will face Fery tonight on Stadium Court with a spot in the semifinals on the line.

Last year’s finalist Botic van de Zandschulp steamrolled No. 2 seed Luciano Darderi, 6-1, 6-0, in just over an hour. No. 8 seed Juan Manuel Cerundolo joined him in the quarterfinals with a win over Sebastian Baez and will face No. 3 seed Ignacio Buse, who advanced with a straight-sets win over Daniel Altmaier.

With the quarterfinals set for today, eight players remain in the hunt for the Winston-Salem Open title as the tournament heads into its final stretch.
