Demon Deac Mees Rottgering continued his impressive Winston-Salem Open debut on Sunday, defeating Hugo Grenier 6-4, 6-1 to earn a spot in the tournament’s main draw. So far, he hasn't dropped a set during qualifying, following up Saturday’s 6-1, 6-0 victory over Hunter Heck with another straight-set win.

American Jenson Brooksby also got off to a strong start, defeating Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 6-3, 6-2 in just over an hour on Stadium Court. Brooksby advances to the second round, where he will face two-time Grand Slam finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas tonight at 6:30 pm.

Elsewhere in the first round, Adolfo Daniel Vallejo beat Pablo Carreno Busta who retired 6-4, 3-0, Miomir Kecmanovic defeated Sho Shimabukuro 6-4, 6-3, and Francisco Comesana earned a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Yibing Wu.

Despite losing his qualifying match, Wake Forest alum DK Suresh made the first round as a lucky loser and will play Marcos Giron. American wild card Sebastian Gorzny lost a tough battle to Felix Balshaw, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, but also moved on to the first round as a lucky loser. Quinn Vandecasteele rounded out the day’s qualifying action with a thrilling 3-6, 7-6(4), 7-5 win over Pierre-Hugues Herbert.

The day’s final match of the evening featured American Darwin Blanch against Australian Rinky Hijikata. Hijikata took the opening set 6-4 before holding off Blanch in a tight second-set tiebreaker to close out the match, 7-6.

The action continues Monday with matches featuring Stefanos Tsitsipas, Cruz Hewitt, and American Jenson Brooksby, along with Demon Deacs Mees Rottgering and DK Suresh.
