Martin Damm stunned top seed Daniil Medvedev 7-5, 6-3 at the Winston-Salem Open on Tuesday, claiming his biggest career win by PIF ATP Ranking.

“That’s obviously the best win of my life,” Damm said in his on-court interview. “It means so much because I’ve been getting closer and closer against the top guys. To do it here in the U.S. right before the US Open, it’s a massive confidence boost.”

Damm, 22, is competing this week at a career-high No. 92 in the PIF ATP Rankings. By upsetting the 2018 Winston-Salem champion Medvedev, Damm earned his first career Top-10 win.

The American lefty, who stands tall at 6’8”, dropped just five points behind his first delivery, according to Infosys ATP Stats. Into the third round, Damm awaits 15th seed Fabian Marozsan, who defeated Miomir Kecmanovic 6-3, 6-4. It marked the Hungarian's third win over the Serbian since mid-June, having also defeated Kecmanovic in Halle and Mallorca.

In other action, #NextGenATP Dutchman Mees Rottgering upset 14th seed Tomas Machac 6-2, 7-6(1) to score his second tour-level win, both of which have come this week. Rottgering, 19, advanced through qualifying and beat Jan Choinski in the first round.

Rottgering’s fellow #NextGenATP teenager Cruz Hewitt was also in action, but the Aussie fell to fourth seed Arthur Fery 6-1, 7-5.

Second-seeded Italian Luciano Darderi ousted countryman Mattia Bellucci 2-6, 6-4, 6-2. Third seed Ignacio Buse overcame Adam Walton 6-2, 5-7, 6-3.
